ALGEBRA II / Trigonometry Accelerated
MRS. BECKLER
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Welcome to Algebra 2 / Trig . This course is a continuation of Algebra 1. Many concepts covered in Algebra 1 will be reviewed and further studied. In addition, many new concepts will be covered as well as the study of trigonometry. My goal is to help my students become learners who understand concepts as well as apply them, not just memorize a process. In order to be successful in this class, you must spend the time to study the material in addition to doing the homework. This is a challenging course so please be prepared and remember to always ask for help!
MATERIALS: Students are responsible for bringing to class the following materials daily:
- Pencil
- Correcting Pen
- Graph Paper
- Graphing Calculator - TI 82 or TI 83
- 2 Spiral Notebooks (one for homework and another for notes)
- Straight Edge / Ruler
WARM- UPS: Students will have warm-ups every day at the beginning of each lesson. Warm-ups may consist of 1-5 problems. These problems may be similar to the homework or skills review. They are also good review for upcoming exams. Warm-ups should be done in the "homework" spiral notebook before the day's homework assignment.
NOTES AND NOTEBOOK: Students are expected to keep all notes and homework inside two separate spiral notebooks. Students are expected to take notes on a daily basis for each lesson and use it as a study guide for homework as well as studying for exams. Be sure to keep everything because you may have a notebook check at the end of the semester!
ASSIGNMENTS: Homework will be assigned daily. Students must show all steps in completing a problem in addition to the answer to earn full credit. You must attempt every problem in order to earn full credit on a homework assignment. Two problems will be graded randomly from the homework assignment each day. All work must be done in PENCIL. Students must have a spiral notebook for all homework assignments. Late work will be accepted for half credit if it is turned in the very next day that it was due. Otherwise, no late work will be accepted, NO EXCEPTIONS. Homework is worth 4 points.
QUIZZES, TESTS AND PROJECTS: Advance notice will be given of any quiz or test days. Please be sure to check the agenda daily for any changes to exam days. Any projects assigned will include a handout and students will receive ample time to complete the project.
ABSENCES: Students will have two days for each day of an excused absence to make up missed work. It is the STUDENT'S responsibility to find out from the teacher what work was missed and to make up all missed assignment(s). If a student is absent on the day of the exam, it is the STUDENT'S responsibility to make an appointment with the teacher to take the test during the next available tutorial, before school or after school, allowing only one day per day of absence. If a student is absent on a test review day, the student will be expected to take the test on the scheduled date.
TARDIES: The school-wide tardy policy will be followed. Students may be considered tardy unless they are in their seat when the bell begins to ring.
GRADES: Grades will be posted online every Friday at www.alisoniguel.com. It is the student's responsibility to check his/her grade online weekly. If there is an inconsistency, students need to see me right away and bring all necessary paper(s) to account for any inconsistency. Grading is based on a weighted scale with the approximate grade breakdown:
- Chapter Test =60%
- Quiz =10%
- Final Exam =15%
- Homework =15%
GRADING SCALE:
A 90-100% D 60-69%
B 80-89% F 0-59%
C 70-79%
TUTORIAL: If you plan on attending my tutorial, come prepared. Do not expect to use that time to socialize. Use the time wisely, such as making up an exam, working on homework, studying, reading a book or asking for help. Don't waste my time or yours.
Parents: Please check your child's progress as frequently as possible online. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by email: akbeckler@capousd.org. I look forward to working with your child this year!
