¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! Welcome to Spanish! Whether or not you know any Spanish today, you will be excited to discover how much you can learn in the next 10 months. All you need to do is listen, practice and speak.
Materials:
Realidades textbook One 7½" x 9¾" 100-page composition notebook
Realidades practice workbook
Grading policy:
•1. Classwork / Homework (10%)
All written classwork will be done in a 7½" x 9¾" composition notebook. Homework will be assigned every night. Written homework will be corrected in class and full credit will be given for work done on time and corrected. You will keep all your work and turn it in on the day of the test. Homework not completed on the day it is due can also be completed and turned in for up to half credit on test day. No late homework or extra credit will be accepted after test day. In addition to written homework, you must spend 10-15 minutes EVERY DAY actively working with the vocabulary. This includes, but is not limited to, using flash cards, having a family member or friend quiz you and writing the words multiple times to learn their spelling.
•2. Quizzes (15%)
Throughout each lesson, there will be daily quizzes covering specific vocabulary and/or grammar concepts. If you are absent on the day of a quiz, you will make up the quiz on the day you return to class. Vocabulary Recognition quizzes cannot be made up; instead, the Vocabulary Production quiz will count twice.
•3. Tests (20%)
At the end of each lesson, there will be a test covering the material. You will be tested on oral comprehension, grammar, reading comprehension and writing proficiency. If you are absent on the day of a test, you will make up the test on the day you return to class.
•4. Oral participation (10%)
You are expected to listen to and to speak Spanish in this classroom as much as possible. Every day you will have opportunities to receive oral participation points. Any disruption of class (including, but not limited to, excessive talking and violations of school discipline policy) will result in a loss of points.
•5. Projects (20%)
You will be assigned three projects per semester. You will be given copy of the instructions with a timeline for turning in each portion of the project. The instructions for the Theme Project can also be found on the website.
•6. Final exam (25%)
The final exam will include all the material covered since the beginning of the school year (although the final exam in June will emphasize the material covered during second semester). The exam will be similar in format to the lesson tests (oral comprehension, grammar, reading comprehension and writing proficiency).
