Viewing Listserv MessageFW: Invisible Children listserveSent: Tuesday, May 19th 2009Aliso Niguel's Invisible Children Club continues to advocate for the children of Northern Uganda and wants to inform you about some upcoming events. This year has brought a dramatic increase in the violence in the region and the LRA have spread their horrific assaults to beyond Uganda's borders and into neighboring countries. Joseph Kony continues to abduct and brutalize children and force them into his army. The advocates for the people there are stepping up their call for an international coalition to stop Joseph Kony, bring peace to the region, and begin the process of healing. On April 25th we participated in an international demonstration called the Rescue which garnered enough attention to make it onto Oprah. This Friday night, May 22nd, we are hosting "Musicology" - a benefit concert for Invisible Children. Student bands from Aliso will perform in the theater from 7-9, 50% of proceeds from ticket sales and 100% of merchandise sales will benefit Invisible Children. We are also trying to put together a group to attend "How It Ends" in Washington D.C. in June. This is a lobbying event organized by Invisible Children and Resolve Uganda. We hope to send a small cohort to D.C. on June 22-23 to participate. We will meet with advocates, political leaders, and conflict resolution experts to be more thoroughly educated on the situation, then the students will meet with congressional leadership on behalf of the people affected by this brutal war. PTSA has generously agreed to cover the registration fees. The students who hope to attend "How It Ends" will also seek sponsorships to help cover the cost of the trip. Our students have proven that you are never too young for civic and social responsibility. We would love to see you at the concert and appreciate your support for our ongoing mission to end Africa's longest running war and rescue Joseph Kony's child soldiers. Every War Has An End!
