Summer School
The district offers a summer school program for students who need additional academic support in order to meet grade level standards, or to pass the California High School Exit Exam, or who may be retained under state laws adopted in 1998. The state Legislature requires that school districts address student remediation and retention through summer school programs. Click here to go directly to the CUSD Summer School information page. Summer school application forms are available in the Guidance office (usually in early March). It is recommended that students meet with their Academic Advisor prior to signing up for a summer school class to be sure they sign up for the correct course. In addition to summer school through our school district, students may be eligible to make up deficient credits through ACCESS or Opportunities for Learning. (Please be advised that courses remediated through alternative programs may not meet the requirements for college admission.) Some classes are available on a limited basis at Saddleback Community College. See their Summer Courses online at http://www.saddleback.edu/schedule/ IMPORTANT NOTE: All courses taken through alternative sources (SBCC, ACCESS, Opportunities, etc) must be pre approved by their Academic Advisor, using the Alternative Course Request Form (available from your academic advisor). Current 9th graders that still need Health (a graduation requirement)should contact their academic advisor before paying for any alternative private or college courses. All requests for taking Health in an alternative setting must be pre-approved and an Alternative Course Request completed. All tuition and fees are the responsibility of the student/family. Summer is a good time for students to get back on track for graduation, especially juniors who are deficient in credits. For many programs, classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please return your forms promptly. |
